As a teenager, he often found himself at odds with his parent’s strict Christian values. At the age of eighteen, he left home to go his own way and pursue a career in music. After choosing the latter, Jason was left homeless with nothing but his clothes, a guitar and his sense of purpose. During that time he made his way to Los Angeles, where he spent every waking moment writing songs that reflected on his situation and the environment around him as he began to pursue his dream of making a career in music. In 1990, Bart quickly became one of the most popular characters on television in what was termed "Bartmania". He became the most prevalent Simpsons character on memorabilia, such as T-shirts. In the early 1990s, millions of T-shirts featuring Bart were sold; as many as one million were sold on some days. Believing Bart to be a bad role model, several American public schools banned T-shirts featuring Bart next to captions such as "I'm Bart Simpson. Who the hell are you?" and "Underachiever ('And proud of it, man!')". The Simpsons merchandise sold well and generated $2 billion in revenue during the first 14 months of sales.[96] The success of Bart Simpson merchandise inspired an entire line of black market counterfeit items, especially T-shirts. Some featured Bart announcing various slogans, others depicted redesigns of the character, including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Bart, Air Simpson Bart, [and] RastaBart". Matt Groening generally did not object to bootleg merchandise, but took exception to a series of "Nazi Bart" shirts which depicted Bart in Nazi uniform or as a white power skinhead. 20th Century Fox sued the creator of the shirts, who eventually agreed to stop making them.

Due to the show's success, over the summer of 1990 the Fox Network decided to switch The Simpsons' timeslot so that it would move from 8:00 p.m. EST on Sunday night to the same time on Thursday, where it would compete with The Cosby Show on NBC, the number one show at the time. Through the summer, several news outlets published stories about the supposed "Bill vs. Bart" rivalry. The August 31, 1990 issue of Entertainment Weekly featured a picture of Bill Cosby wearing a Bart Simpson T-shirt.[103] "Bart Gets an F" (season two, 1990) was the first episode to air against The Cosby Show, and it received a lower Nielsen Rating, tying for eighth behind The Cosby Show, which had an 18.5 rating. The rating is based on the number of household televisions that were tuned into the show, but Nielsen Media Research estimated that 33.6 million viewers watched the episode, making it the number one show in terms of actual viewers that week. At the time, it was the most watched episode in the history of the Fox Network, and it is still the highest rated episode in the history of The Simpsons. Because of his popularity, Bart was often the most promoted member of the Simpson family in advertisements for the show, even for episodes in which he was not involved in the main plot.

Bart was described as "television's king of 1990", "television's brightest new star"[108] and an "undiminished smash". Entertainment Weekly named Bart the "entertainer of the year" for 1990, writing that "Bart has proved to be a rebel who's also a good kid, a terror who's easily terrorized, and a flake who astonishes us, and himself, with serious displays of fortitude." In the United States congressional, senatorial and gubernatorial elections of, Bart was one of the most popular write-in candidates, and in many areas was second only to Mickey Mouse amongst fictional characters. In the 1990 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Bart made his debut as one of the giant helium-filled balloons for which the parade is known. The Bart Simpson balloon has appeared at every parade since. This was referenced in The Simpsons in the episode "Bart vs. Thanksgiving", which aired the same day as the parade, where Homer tells Bart, "If you start building a balloon for every flash-in-the-pan cartoon character, you turn the parade into a farce!" Meanwhile, behind and unbeknownst to him, the television briefly shows a Bart Simpson balloon.

The album The Simpsons Sing the Blues was released in September 1990 and was a success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200 and becoming certified 2x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The first single from the album was the pop rap song "Do the Bartman", performed by Nancy Cartwright and released on November 20, 1990. The song was written by Michael Jackson, although he did not receive any credit. Jackson was a fan of The Simpsons, especially Bart, and had called the producers one night offering to write Bart a number one single and do a guest spot on the show. Jackson eventually guest starred in the episode "Stark Raving Dad" (season three, 1991) under the pseudonym John Jay Smith. While the song was never officially released as a single in the United States, it was successful in the United Kingdom. In 1991 it was the number one song in the UK for three weeks from February 16 to March 9 and was the seventh best-selling song of the year. To get his girlfriend back.

At least, that’s what he says in a YouTube video released March 24. The video, which describes student politicians as “sycophantic resumé builders” before leading into a montage of Lee and his vice presidential candidate, Rahul Desai, shooting handguns in a field, already has more than 1,000 views.

Lee

He has not yet been approved to run by the elections commission, but Lee, Overland Park senior, said he didn’t need the elections commission to approve his candidacy. He said his bid for the presidency would not be the typical Student Senate campaign.

“We don’t need to fucking park ourselves on Wescoe Beach and harass people like we’re selling fucking Girl Scout cookies,” Lee said. “That’s absolutely insane. There’s no common sense in that, but that’s what characterizes these elections.”

Ask Lee why he is running for Student Senate and you probably won’t get a straight answer. He’ll tell you he doesn’t care about Senate and he doesn’t care about the student body and he definitely doesn’t care about the other coalitions.

“I’m running in a sense, because I came to this epiphany, this recognition, that in order to do good sometimes you have to engage in the evils of this world, and I think Student Senate most certainly deserves that description,” Lee said.

Lee, however, has been involved with Senate since he came to the University through various campaigns and also comments frequently on Student Senate articles on Kansan.com.

“I think he has been involved with it because he does care,” said Jack Connor, Overland Park senior and Lee’s former roommate. “Say what you will about it being a stunt or whatever, but he’s still running for Student Senate. If he didn’t care about it I don’t think he would be doing it.”

Connor, off-campus senator, said he thought Lee, a quantitative psychology major, understood how to run elections better than almost anyone else in Senate.

“He always has an objective in mind,” Connor said. “In some ways he’s the most rational person I know. He can completely think through a problem and find the most reasonable answer.”

Lee said this campaign was no exception. When asked if he was being deceptive or duplicitous, Lee responded without hesitation, yes.

“I am being completely manipulative and everything I’ve done, this entire campaign is, I would say, nominally well thought out.”

Lee’s campaign has already raised suspicions within University administration as well as discomfort among the student body. They said specifically that they were concerned with the presence of guns in Lee’s YouTube video.

KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said the University did not condone the content of Lee’s video, but respected his first amendment right to produce it.

“It’s violent,” said Sarah Bluvas, Atlanta junior and elections commission chair. “If you see someone saying they want to run for a public office and then spending two or three minutes on a video that you post online, that anyone can watch, at a shooting range, it raises questions. It makes you wonder what is this person really capable of.”

After conversations between members of the elections commission and the vice provost’s office, a decision was made to have a police officer sit outside an elections commission meeting last Tuesday and the Senate meeting Wednesday.

Lee said he didn’t intend for the guns to be intimidating or scary, but instead as a way to show something unique about himself that he enjoys.

When asked to sum up his campaign, to define a purpose, Lee will still avoid giving a straight answer.

“I know you have to wrap it up. You have things to do,” Lee said. “You want a message, a mission statement, Tutu Lee thinks this. Doesn’t work this way. Here, write this: I’m confused. Tutu Lee’s confused. He doesn’t know what’s going on. Tutu Lee’s confused. Or: I’m a mystery. An enigma. Wrapped in a riddle.”

Lee plans to appeal on Tuesday the elections commission’s decision to not allow him to run for student body president.

Lee’s video can be seen by searching YouTube for “Free State Campaign Red Band Trailer.”

Brianne Pfannenstiel edited by Jesse Trimble

YouTube : Featured Video

MySpace : Featured Profile

Hi guys! MySpace, the Rupert Murdoch-owned website once synonymous with social networking, is losing popularity and key staff in its biggest troubles since launching five years ago.

Latest figures show that Murdoch is being beaten in the fight for social networks. MySpace suffered a drop in visitor traffic last month and is now less than half the size of its younger rival, Facebook. Three executives recently quit the one-time darling of the internet and there is speculation its co-founders will follow.

MySpace's loss of status as the cool place to be is an object lesson in the notoriously fickle internet, where today's cultural icon is tomorrow's passing fad. From humble origins in 2003, the site led the so-called "Web 2.0" revolution in which users could create their own profile pages and share content with friends. Murdoch's purchase of MySpace for $580m was seen as a masterstroke as membership continued to soar, with celebrities and politicians joining the craze.

But then came Facebook, founded by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, which soon snowballed with an older and apparently more affluent demographic to steal MySpace's crown. Gradually newspaper coverage of social networks switched from references to "MySpace and Facebook" to "Facebook and MySpace". The rise of Bebo also undermined MySpace's dominance, while Twitter is among the latest novelties eating into users' attention spans.

MySpace had 124 million monthly unique visitors last month, a decline of 2%, according to the marketing research company comScore. Facebook, by contrast, racked up 276 million unique visitors, an increase of 16.6%.

Michael Arrington, co-editor of the influential industry blog TechCrunch, posted: "What was a bad situation in November 2008 is starting to turn outright ugly - Facebook is now well over twice the size of MySpace ... It was less than a year ago that MySpace and Facebook were the same size."

There are clues behind the scenes that all is not well at Murdoch's Fox Interactive Media, which runs the site.

Amit Kapur, MySpace's chief operating officer, resigned after little more than a year in the post to set up a new company. He will be joined by Jim Benedetto and Steve Pearman, senior vice-presidents of engineering and product strategy.

The exodus comes amid speculation of further departures and rumours that MySpace's co-founders, Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, could also walk away in October after the end of their contracts, each worth $30m over two years.

MySpace is clinging on to a marginal lead over Facebook in America but trails badly in Europe. In Britain, Facebook overtook its competitor in September 2007, the comScore data shows.

Nick Thomas, an analyst at Forrester Research, said: "In the last 12 months Facebook has extended its dominance in every territory in Europe." However, he added: "I'm not convinced that it's terminal for MySpace. The battle isn't over yet."

Twitter : How to get more followers ?

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 74px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7qlSrwtHo3I/Sc8882a52CI/AAAAAAAAABk/X4HAdyJ0ZQg/s200/twitter_logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318536701046020130" />

By Husla3x

Getting followers on twitter is not as easy as it seems it would be. I have try for many months and still have not so many on my account. I have done much research into this and have compiled a list of things to do that seem to work. I will also be doing these things.

First off I join a website that is sort of like the viral webmaster sites where one person adds another and so on until it is viral and you have many followers, this worked and given me 23 new followers in 2 weeks alone. It started slow but picked up soon. Here is a address to Tweetergetter.com
All you need is twitter username and password and the rest is automatically manage. This is not going to be the only thing you need to do, you also have to put in mush work in other more regular ways.

Here are just some examples of traffic-driving strategies (there are many more):

1. Create a tool/application and promote your profile alongside it.
2. Buy a banner ad to target tech-savvy audiences, link it to your profile.
3. Use Twitter as a tool for tech/customer support.
4. Organize a contest through your Twitter profile
5. Include links to your profile in email/forum signatures.
6. Evangelize Twitter on your blog/other blogs and include a link to your profile.
7. Connect your blog and other social media profiles to your Twitter page.
8. Learn to pitch Twitter influencers with articles relevant to their interest
9. Explicitly ask another user to recommend your profile or exchange recommendations.

I wish you much good luck and hope to see you on the top of the twitter boards. Also if you have not used Stumbleupon as of yet you are missing out on a tremendous source of free traffic to your webpage or other internet activities. Or of course you could pay close to $100 for a Twitter follower guide if you want to take the easy route, they sell them a few places now. I don't have money like that to spend so i am taking the old fashioned way, hard work and trial and error.

MySpace : Featured Profile

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7qlSrwtHo3I/Sc4pihPmxAI/AAAAAAAAABY/wNVkKHbJ7y4/s320/Sherrie+Keys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318233882987250690" />

Hi there!

Today our featured profile belongs to Sherrie Keys. Another tryout, “Special Delivery,” was a hidden-camera series.

But the Web site, which has called itself “Hollywood’s digital playground,” may be moving into higher-quality television territory. Its latest series, “Married on MySpace,” is a production of Endemol, the reality TV production powerhouse that makes “Deal or No Deal,” “Big Brother,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” and other staples of the network schedules.

The glitzy promotional trailer for the series would feel right at home on a TV network, betraying the notion that Web shows are a lesser breed of video content.

“Just as Endemol has consistently delivered high-quality television programming over the years, we view this latest partnership as a wonderful opportunity to extend this type of quality programming to the Web,” said David Armour, a vice president at Endemol.

Similarly, Jason Kirk, the vice president for video and entertainment at MySpace, a unit of the News Corporation, said the Web site teamed up with Endemol because of the high quality and interactivity of the company’s work.

“Married on MySpace,” a 13-episode weekly reality series, will chronicle one couple’s wedding from start to finish and will allow MySpace users to vote on the wedding’s location, the pre-wedding parties, and even the attire. (If the conceit sounds familiar, that’s because NBC’s “Today” show has hosted an annual wedding contest for almost a decade.)

The episodes will be supplemented by MySpace profiles of the wedding party, behind-the-scenes video and blogs. The wedding will be streamed live on the Web site.

Mr. Kirk said the “Married on MySpace” concept came from an “in-house brainstorm.” The series will be sponsored by “The Proposal,” a feature film starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds that opens June 19. Mr. Armour said other sponsorship announcements will be made soon.

So, too, will other announcements about MySpace’s original programming. The site recently joined with Warner Brothers to create a so-called hub for “Rockville, CA,” a new Web series from TheWB.com.

Original videos could keep MySpace visitors on the site for longer periods of time. The measurement firm HitWise found that although visits to MySpace dipped 28 percent in February 2009 compared with the same month in 2008, even as visits to Facebook surged, the users who do come to MySpace tend to linger on the site a few minutes longer.

Can Twitter and Facebook Make Big Bucks?

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 118px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7qlSrwtHo3I/Sc4bCMtwbII/AAAAAAAAABI/RUNPXaZ6cFM/s320/twitter_logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318217934557965442" />

By Nicholas Kolakowski

Twitter, Facebook and similar Web 2.0 sites have earned unprecedented buzz for their ability to build social networks of millions. As social network sites mature, however, a question looms large in the minds of their investors, one that promises to greatly affect the future of social networking as a medium: How exactly can these enormously popular solutions start making substantial amounts of cash?

Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites have risen from humble startup origins to redefine how 10s of millions of people communicate on a daily basis. Even the enterprise has started to embrace them as tools; Salesforce.com recently added Twitter to its Service Cloud, which already includes a Facebook application.

Now that the form has firmly established itself, though, how can Twitter and Facebook start to generate more substantial revenue? For years, investors have been pouring cash into social networking sites with amorphous sales plans on the hope that a profit-generating angle would eventually come to life (or else that Google would swoop in and snatch up their little startup).

Twitter may have found something of an answer this week. The site, which allows users to send 140-character microblogs, or "tweets," announced on March 23 the launch of a Microsoft-sponsored site called ExecTweets, which collects executives' microblogging missives for the public's reading pleasure.

Later in 2009, Twitter also plans on starting commercial accounts with expanded features for businesses at an as-yet-unspecified fee.

"ExecTweets is an interesting deal; you can expect more of that, with sites deployed across multiple lifestyles—the next will probably be deployed across tech," Jeremiah Owyang, an analyst with Forrester, said in an interview.

Advertising, Owyang added, is one area in which Twitter is unlikely to tread as it hunts for revenue. "We know for [a] fact that ads disrupt the user experience, because users are there to communicate with each other, and ads would have to go into the editorial stream," he said. One more likely avenue for revenue generation lies in "monetizing the data, as with Salesforce."

Facebook, meanwhile, has taken steps into online advertising—but not nearly to the extent of MySpace, which seems determined to plaster much of its online real estate with ads.

"Facebook is clearly focused on growth, growth, growth," Owyang said, with regard to its features and new Facebook APIs for developers. Facebook's application platform could become a basis for attracting cash in the future, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been publicly reluctant to embrace full-throated monetization policies, even after Microsoft invested $240 million in the service.

Still, social networking holds considerable pull for users both inside and outside of the enterprise, and with that pull comes opportunities for investors to perhaps see some future return on their outlay. Ultimately, companies on the hunt for clients and customers may be willing to pay Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites for access to their most important asset—their member lists.

Or, as Owyang asked rhetorically, "How much is lead generation worth?"

MySpace : Cool profiles and photos that you have to see

This profile belongs to Madcon, a cool Norwegian band known from their hit "Beggin".
Their space looks really crazy in a positive way.

Check out :

Madcon

and video for "Beggin" :

madcon
<embed src="http://mediaservices.myspace.com/services/media/embed.aspx/m=42816897,t=1,mt=video,searchID=2ffe2cd8-920f-49f1-b02e-13456f28a81c,primarycolor=,secondarycolor=" width="425" height="360" allowFullScreen="true" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"/

Another space that you need to see is a profile of Artefact Photography. Extra frills can be optionally added through third-party interfaces like TweetDeck).

The new, unified Facebook newsfeed includes application updates, which are proving very annoying to many users.

In a statement on its site, Facebook says it will soon “be giving you tools to control and reduce application content that your friends share into your stream”.

But seemingly unable to resist its content-crazy urges, Facebook will also be adding another element to its feed: photos tagged by friends.

Another problem has been that the new-look Facebook newsfeed remains static unless you refresh it manually.

“We will be adding the ability to turn on auto updating in the near future so you no longer need to refresh the page,” says Facebook’s Christopher Cox.

Meanwhile, a new faction of critics-of-the-critics has emerged, saying the site should not be dictated to by such a minority revolt (all up, Facebook has more than 120 million active members).

Facebook surges. Still.
Although the popular wisdom has Twitter surging and Facebook in retreat (certainly an easy conclusion to reach anecdotally, as droves defect to the microblogging service for their primary updates), the original soc-net site is actually doing OK, by one count.

Read Write Web reports that the number of Facebook users over 35 has actually doubled in the past 60 days.

Over the past year, Facebook has doubled in size to become the seventh most-visited property on the web, easily outstripping Fox Interactive's MySpace, and Bebo.

A recent Nielsen survey does find, however, that while still much smaller, Twitter is growing much faster. At the start of the year, the service had six million tweeters worldwide. Now there are seven million in the US alone.

Facebook's year-on-year growth rate is 228%, Twitter's (albeit off a much smaller base) 1382%.

The question now, is who will buy who?
<img width='1' height='1'
